Need Mushroom ID (chicken of the woods?)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

My mom found these on her farm in southwestern North Carolina, where it has still been hot and humid recently.  She thinks they might be chicken of the woods.

Can anyone help with an ID?

Thanks!

NO!  They are not chicken of the woods. I don't know a lot about these but what I see could very well be the poisonous jack-o-lantern. I'm sure someone on here will chime in to clarify for you.

If they glow in the dark they are jack o lanterns, but either way they're not chicken of the woods.

Definitely Jacks. Don't eat they are very poisonous. For future reference, Chicken of the woods never have a stem and never have gills.

Glowing in the dark is not reliable.  I have yet to get a good glow from Jack o lanterns which these are.
