Chad
I am trying to identify the mushrooms growing in my grass in the backyard. They smell good, like a white mushroom I would get from the grocery store. The stalk is hollow but not fibrous. Any thoughts?
Dave W
"Mica caps" have tiny shiny grains on the cap surfaces, and striate cap margins. These are something different... maybe a species of Psathyrella or Lacrymaria. Spore print taken on a black surface (or glass or foil) would be helpful. bobby b
Dave, don't you mean a white surface for the mentioned genera that have dark spore prints.
GJC
A combination of white and black is best......but to determine the true color of a dark spore print, black is helpful as subtle shades of brown or purple will show up against the black background......these may all look black against a white background...... Dave W
Exactly GJC. That's what we're looking for here, a subtle tint (or not) for a very dark print. But, as you say, white/black juxtaposition of collection surfaces is generally best.
