Lactifluus. Is it eadable?

Looks like Lactarius. Most white Lactarius mushrooms have strong peppery taste, can cause stomach upset and are not recommended to eat. In Europe it is popular after being cured with salt for a month or more. Such preparation reduces sharp taste. Also used in dry form in small amounts as spice. I tried small amount after boiling in couple changes of salted water and used it to add some spice to vegetable dishes.

In Scandinavian countries and East European countries some types of peppery Lactarius mushrooms are salt-cured. The process requires that the salted sliced mushrooms are layered between large leaves --of a particular tree, don't know which tree-- inside a barrel. The stacked mushrooms/leaves are weighted with a rock. The mushrooms stay like this for quite a long time, over a month I believe. This is a fairly complicated process. I'm certain there is more to it than I have just explained. And...

Some types of Lactarius mushrooms will make you sick regardless of how they are prepared. If you are not certain about whether these particular mushrooms may be rendered edible by salt-curing, then I recommend not eating them.

I think these may be either Lactarius psammicola or L. zonarius. Milk Mushrooms of North America lists each of these as "edibility unknown".
