Antenna
I spread horse manure around my garden this year and have had many mushrooms sprouting in clusters. Anyone have a clue what this is, and if it's edible?
Dave W
A species of Panaeolus. Possibly P. semiovatus. http://www.mushroomexpert.com/panaeolus_semiovatus.html I would recommend not eating this.
Antenna
Oh, thank you. I was wondering if horses can eat it, perhaps people could, but better safe than sorry! There's been a lot of mushrooms sprouting from that manure (mixed with straw). I guess that's why people prefer cow manure (4 stomachs kill the spores). Although I like the mushrooms, it makes the garden more entertaining:)
MushroomDan
Dave, do you know if these are hallucinogenic?
Antenna
From what I read about them, they can cause upset stomachs for some people but are not hallucinogenic.
Dave W
According to available information, psychoactive properties vary across the genus Panaeolus. IMO, it's a risky genus of mushrooms to experiment with.
