JustCurious
Hi everyone! This is my first ever attempt at mushroom identification. I saw these mushrooms in Washington, DC and am wondering what kind they are. Any help would be appreciated as I begin my mycological journey. Maybe they are an agaricus? bobby b
Agaricus looks like a good guess as to genus. If correct, a dark brown spore print would accumulate under your cap. Go to MushroomExpert.com , click on the 1100+ mushroom window and the Agaricus (Key) is the 4th line down. Click on it. A great free web site. Lots of good reading JC. vitog
Without a view of the underside, these could just as easily be Chlorophyllum, but the spore print will distinguish them from Agaricus.
Matt McDermott
Same with what vitog said. Guess is Chlorophyllum rhacodes
Dave W
Things to check, in addition to the spore print color... odor, staining on cut flesh, type of gill attachment (although both Agaricus and Chlorophyllum have gills that are free of the stalk), type of ring on the stalk (if any). I think these may be Agaricus crocodilinus. But to verify this species, a microscopic view of the spores is necessary. (And, as has been mentioned by others, these may not even be a species of Agaricus.)
