krohnox
I'm what you would call a beginner in the world of mushroom foraging. I would like to gain some knowledge from this find. Would anyone, be so kind as to share any information on these mushrooms. I believe them to be golden chanterelles. Location - growing near hardwoods near a small stream at the bottom of a ravine. Evan
They look more like smooth chanterelles to me. They taste just as good.
GCn15
There is only one way I could offer a positive ID. Send me 5 lbs of them and a stick of butter and I'll let you know....hehehe
Dave W
Smooth Chanterelles, Cantharellus lateritius. When young, the fertile surface (underside) is smooth. When fully mature, the fertile surface sometimes develops smooth ridges like what's seen here. These look like prime material!
