Dave W Posted June 15, 2018 Report Share Posted June 15, 2018 Definitely a type of Varnished Ganoderma. As to species...? In NA the name Ganoderma curtisii has more-or-less replaced G. lucidum. At least this is my current understanding. But the one seen here has fairly uniformly red cap surface, and G. curtisii has a lot of yellow, especially toward the margin. I think that the eastern NA Varnished Ganoderma species are perhaps not yet well understood. It's safe to call this mushroom "Reishi".
