Emily
I am from mid-northern Michigan, and while out hunting for morals I stumbled upon these strange looking sponge like mushrooms growing on logs. Could anybody help me identify what kind they are?
Matt McDermott
You probably should propose this question on the "Identifying mushrooms" Forum section on this site. But since you are already asking here, my guess would be Artomyces pyxidatus or some other type of 'coral' mushroom. With the picture slightly blurry and only one view, that is my best guess. Others may have different ideas. See: Kuo, M. (2007, April). Artomyces pyxidatus. Retrieved from the MushroomExpert.Com Web site: http://www.mushroomexpert.com/artomyces_pyxidatus.html
MattVa
I agree with Matt its hard to tell because of the blurry pic but Artomyces Pyxidatus is good starting place. The crown tips on the ones I have found where very easy to distinguish.
