NjClem0305
Came across these today. I’m not super confident with blewit ID, but that’s what I’m thinking these are. What do you think? Eastern Washington approx 3000 feet.
vitog
My guess is that these are Cortinarius mushrooms, although I don't see any obvious signs of a cortina on them. Were they growing in a forest? All of the Blewits that I've found were associated with human-altered habitats: at the edge of a field or in some garden waste. A spore print would confirm their ID. NjClem0305
Found in a forest, spore print in progress. Thanks!
Dave W
Blewits (Lepista/Clitocybe nuda) and the species of large purple Cortinarius (multiple examples) can be very difficult to tell apart. This is a real good example! But I think this is a Cort. The cap surface seems kinda roughened. Blewits have smooth caps. Also, it looks like the stalk surface has some adhering fibers. As has already been suggested, spore print is the decisive factor here. Blewits grow in a variety of habitat, including both hardwood forests and coniferous forests (in addition to lots of different types of places where decaying vegetable matter is available). NjClem0305
Definitely not blewits, but fun mushrooms nonetheless.
Dave W
That's how you tell a purple Cort from a Blewit.
Eugene_O
Hi! Did you try to slice this mushroom? What is the smell of this mushroom?
