But in this case, the fuzzy orange "carpet" is a key ID feature, as is the scaly cap and white stalk. Here's a link to the Mushroom Expert portrayal of Coprinellus domesticus. There's another species mentioned that's apparently difficult to distinguish from C. domesticus.
