StetsonKennedy
Hopefully I have identified these correctly as Shaggy Mane. These are edible before they go inky, right?

Matt McDermott
A couple suggestions; make sure you are collecting from an uncontaminated source. These grow in lawns, that may or may not be treated with chemicals, part of a septic field, in an area of potentially contaminated runoff, etc. Also, when trying any new food, try only a small amount to make sure you don't have a reaction to it as well. Some Coprinus mushrooms have been known to cause some sickness related to consumption combined with alcohol prior too of after. Make sure to read up on these before trying. StetsonKennedy
This is why this message board is great. Thanks for looking out for me, Matt.
Dave W
Some really nice photos of Shaggy Manes in-situ. In particular, the second pic is classic. Looks like a good number of them are in prime condition for harvesting.
troutddicted
Dont eat the black parts - only consume the white parts, anything turning brown/black gets discarded
