GJC
Hi all, I found this fungus while out hunting boletes. I did not harvest it and only have these two in situ pictures which came out a little blurry, but I am hoping there is enough detail there for a tentative id. It was growing at the base of a live Maple in Southern Ontario. if it is a comb tooth, I would be interested in anyone's experience eating them..... Take care George
CamilleR
Looks like it to me. I've found examples of it that were past prime and this looks really fresh. http://www.mushroomexpert.com/hericium_coralloides.html
Old Oak
You should have harvested it!! Those are excellent edibles and that one is prime. It may grow back in the same spot if you remember where you were.
Staveshaver
That slug looks glad you left it behind.
GJC
Thanks for the replies....I was debating harvesting it but already had lots of assorted mushrooms to clean and no experience eating or cleaning Hericium species... The slug did seem happy I left it ? G
GCn15
You missed out on a choice edible, but it may grow back.
