Usually this species stains light blue on the cut flesh and bruised pores, and then a reddish stain develops on the flesh (but not always). http://www.mushroomexpert.com/tylopilus_sordidus.html T. porphyrosporus is similar. Thus seems like an interesting fond for Washington State. Species of Tylopilus are common east of the Rockies, but not so much in western NA.
