Matt McDermott
Type of lactarius?
Dave W
Possibly Lactarius luteolus. This species has a white to off-white cap, whitish gills, white latex that stains the gills brown, a fishy odor, and a mild taste.
Heatmiser71
I cut the stem. And it instantly oozed white milky stuff Edited August 29, 2017 by Heatmiser71
Dave W
Definitely a species of Lactarius. Now is when it gets difficult :-) Did the milk change color after a few minutes of exposure to the air? Also, it's often necessary to taste and spit a tiny bit of a Lactarius mushroom. But be prepared... with water on hand. The flavor may be unpleasantly bitter/hot/acrid. Any noticeable odor?
