ronniewho
what do yo think? first hunt of the year, its 3/16 and I found some stuff, pretty good as we should have at least 4 feet of snow on the ground, I have no I know idea what they are, O.K. some idea but not sure, some jellies and some kind of polypore, all of the jellies were found on dead wood and the polypore was fond on a white birch.sorry for the bad pics, all were taken on a cell phone
Evan
It's hard to tell from the photo, but the jelly fungus might be tree ear. Were they lumpy or somewhat smooth? If they were smooth then they are probably tree ears. Not sure about the polypore, I don't know much about them unless they are the edible ones that I find. Dave W
Polypore may be a leftover from last year, so the original colors may be faded. Except for the color, it does look a bit like Fomotopsis pinicola. This polypore is usually found on pine wood, but it's also known to grow on birch. Looks like birch in the photo. F. pinicola is a hard-fleshed conk.
