Musake
I found this mushroom growing on an Ohi'a tree. Is it edible? If this mushroom is edible what is its flavor profile?
GCn15
Sure looks like an oyster, but being on the other side of the world really shakes my confidence in giving any potential i.d. There are mushrooms in the South Pacific that are harmless that look like poisonous mushrooms here and vice versa. I would try and see if there is a Hawaiian Mushroom Field Guide, or mycological group to ask if no one here has confident knowledge of Hawaiian mushrooms. Dave W
The cap shows small scales/hairs on the surface, which is unusual for a species of Pleurotus, except for P. dryinus. But, I don't think this is P. dryinus. Does this mushroom have a distinctive odor and/or taste? (It's okay to taste/spit a tiny amount.) Maybe a species of Lentinus or Lentinellus?
