John Smalldridge
Just some photos of various mushrooms I've found over the last few weeks including a log from yesterday that had about 15 lbs. of prime oysters and also a photo of the smallest Hydnum I've ever found. troutddicted
So jealous! All I've got to stare at are bare trees and a snowy ground. Where is all this action taking place? Thanks for the share John
John Smalldridge
Eastern part of N.C. I wish everyone had mushrooms to find troutddicted. I miss all the action everyone was posting during the summer.
Dave W
Nice to see somebody is still finding mushrooms. I think that tiny Hydnum may be H. albidum. The one with the quarter atop it --also seen in next photo, I believe-- is a Hebeloma. Poisonous. A Belgian mycologist is currently studying NA versions of this genus. I sent him a few collections. I also see Lycoperdon pyriforme, Ganoderma, Laccaria, those nice Oysters you mentioned, Pluteus (I think... the solitary mushroom on the log), and a bunch of Psathyrellas which I recognize by the one inverted in the last photo. The little yellow ones are interesting. Some type of Waxy Cap, I think. If they were really sticky/slimy then I'd say Gliophorus.
John Smalldridge
Dave, the little yellow ones were very sticky/slimy. It looks like the mushroom season is about to end for me also, as the forecast is calling for temps in the teens later this week.
Dave W
John, here's an idea for the little yellow ones. http://www.mycoquebec.org/bas.php?trie=G&l=l&nom=Gliophorus flavus Lebeuf comb. prov. / Hygrophore jaune&tag=Gliophorus flavus&gro=
John Smalldridge
Thanks Dave, looks like a good possibility.
eat-bolete
Those are some seriously awesome pics. Should be in NC in the next few week, hopefully will find some time between to go look for oysters.
