robertbobby
Hi everyone I just picked a few of these mushrooms in a soccer field , I think they are shaggy manes the stems are hollow and i would love to try them out for my birthday lunch. If they are what is the best way to prep and cook them and can i mix with other mushrooms? Thanks Rob
themess1
Those are definitely shaggy manes . Pretty bland in my experience . Stir fry them or make some mushroom soup.
robertbobby
Thanks should I chop them up or leave them whole can I rinse them?
Tasso
I'd think twice about eating mushrooms found on a soccer field. It has probably been sprayed for weeds and mushrooms can accumulate toxins.
bobby b
Pan fried some a couple days ago (first time tryin' them). They brown up nice and crispy (not bland). Just picked some more and gonna pan fry, add a little Marsala, when reduced add a little flour (brown), add a little chicken stock. Venison burgers with mushroom sauce! I'll let you know how it turns out.
bobby b
Could have turned out better. Put too many in the pan. They were already damp from the rain and ended with too much liquid with no browning. Still their characteristic flavor held up to the abuse. I think they have potential. Gonna keep them on my list! vitog
I haven't picked any in quite a while, but I know that Shaggy Manes go very well with eggs.
