SheepHeadReaper
These Oysters are actually rowing on and Elm tree stump. Just picked today in NEPA. Just wondering if anybody can narrow down what specific oyster it may be.. Making a spore print tonight. Thanks!
bobby b
Looks like Pleurotus Pulmonarius, the summer oyster. Pleuratus Ostreatus grows from the fall into the winter. There is also the elm oyster, not closely related, which is is in a different genus, Hypsizygus. Not a good edible. Your mushrooms look like they're in prime condition. I've enjoyed the summer oysters several times this summer. If you haven't used MushroomExpert.com yet, try it. bobby b SWPA
Dave W
Either Pleurotus pulmonarius or P. ostreatus, each of which usually has a spore print that shows a lilac or grayish tinge. A third common species of Pleurotus is P. populinus. This species has a white spore print. If you take a spore print, then use non-porous surfaces, one black one white. The black shows whether a print has formed, but the white is where you will see whether the color is pure white or slightly different than white. As for edibility, any of these species are choice. Doesn't look like P. dryinus to me. This type has a stalk that isn't perfectly smooth like you see with the others.

flipjargendy
Just curious, did they smell a little bit fruity or a little bit like vanilla?
