Dave W Posted July 6, 2016 Report Share Posted July 6, 2016 Very interesting! The lack of blue staining/bruising eliminates a whole slew of possibilities. The in-situ photo bears a striking resemblance to Boletus bicolor (now Baorangia bicolor). But the pores are clearly red, and not just reddish due to age. Did a little checking. I think these are Boletus bicolor var borealis. http://mushroomobserver.org/33943 Note this Mushroom Observer link shows a collection made in Asheville, NC.
