fungrrl
It's been dry, dry, dry here in northern IL for the last month, and I've not even bothered going out too look. But we got some nice rain last night, with more coming today. I'm planning on spending a lot of time in the woods this weekend. How soon should I start looking? I'm sorely tempted to charge out into the wood near my home later this afternoon - but it's not even been been 24 hours since the showers started. I'm hoping to see some chantrelles, trumpets maybe, boletes ...

Dave W
I have found that when a prolonged drought has occurred, it may take several rain events to get the mushrooms going. But in places that are generally damp, like mossy creek-bottoms, stuff tends to recover more quickly. So, if you've got a spot like this, it's probably the place to start looking. Tasso
fungrrl, All that rain got the chanterelles flushing here in N.E.,IL. I found a few pounds today and saw many, many more pins just getting started. Should be good this week. Checked my bolete spots and nothing yet. fungrrl
Thanks Tasso. I found nothing at one spot on Sunday but have another to check this week. Glad to hear you did well!
Evan
We finally got some rain this past week. 1.24 inches on Monday, and another .09 Thur. We got more last night. I'm thinking about going out tomorrow to hunt a little. We're picking up a new puppy today, so we'll have to see how things progress for tomorrow. Evan
Well, we took the new puppy out on Sunday and nothing. Even after all the rain last week the soil was completely dry.
