Edibility question

Recommended Posts

I am wondering if anyone has eaten Amanita rubescens? In my area most of them are parasitised by Hypomyces hyalanus, but I usually find some still intact. Has anyone tried them, and are they worth a try? Obviously, a positive ID is essential.

I have eaten them three or four times. I remember really liking them once, and another time thinking they tasted kinda not-so-good. Be certain not to confuse with A. flavorubescens = A. flavorubens, the Yellow Blusher. I have seen washed-out examples of this mushroom in which almost all of the yellow tones were gone. Also, take care to avoid A. brunnescens, the Cleft Foot or Star Foot Amanita. Although they are very common in my neck of the woods, I have not eaten A. rubescens for quite a long time.
