lane620 Posted July 28, 2015 Report Posted July 28, 2015 I found these in the woods next to a big oak tree.
dualsetters Posted July 28, 2015 Report Posted July 28, 2015 Looks like Meripilus sumstinei to me and a big one at that. http://www.mushroomexpert.com/meripilus_sumstinei.html
Evan Posted July 29, 2015 Report Posted July 29, 2015 I'm going to say Laetiporus Cincinnatus. White chicken of the woods. It looks like and older specimen. They are a good edible when fresh and they have a nice salmon color on top. You could probably use this one to make a nice mushroom stock for soup or braising, though.
lane620 Posted July 29, 2015 Author Report Posted July 29, 2015 Their was 3 bunches of these in about a 10 foot circle.

I read the description and it sounds like you are correct.it wasn't growing at the base of the tree it apparently was growing from the the roots.
