ShrmlvrAir Posted August 19 Report Posted August 19 Hello! Looking for help identifying this bolete, I think it's a lilac bolete but I'm not 100% any one else want to guess? This was found in mixed forest on the ground no staining, with a bigger stem then the types we normally get but there's been lots of rain lately soo.. Quote
1left Posted August 20 Report Posted August 20 The shape and colors of the cap, pore surface and stem do very well match Boletus separans (lilac bolete) on its 1st day above ground. I'm viewing this on a phone so I can't see the reticulate but fully suspect it is there. You mentioned a mixed forest, were any red oak, beech or maple there? Quote
ShrmlvrAir Posted August 20 Author Report Posted August 20 Hi! Thank you for replying 🙏🏼 it's a beautiful specimen that I was hunting for! The area is densely wooded there's a ton of birch maple beech hemlock nearby are spruce fir pine, ferns a wild tiny stream... I did get a spore print and it looks a bit pinky/blush. (Ignore the actual blue spot on the right.) I only had used kid paper available. Quote
1left Posted August 20 Report Posted August 20 Although the most common spore print colors are yellowish brown and ochre brown, pale reddish brown is mentioned from some areas so it does fit within the range of spore print color shades for B separans. The beech trees, damp area near a stream and time of appearance match. To be 100% you'd need a drop of ammonia hydroxide placed on any reddish pink area of the fresh mushroom and a quick blue green reaction would confirm it to B separans. Quote
The reply above is another AI answer, like the one in the previous topic. Quote
ShrmlvrAir Posted August 27 Author Report Posted August 27 Here's a couple more pics after I cut one in half. It's very fluffy and dry. The stem was quite chewed in by slugs - darn slugs... Can I ask vitog, what do you mean ai answer? Quote
vitog Posted August 28 Report Posted August 28 AI is an acronym for Artificial Inteligence, which is the technology being used by some people to produce automatic responses to some forum topics. There have been a lot of those in these forums; some of them sound reasonable and some are ridiculous. Quote
ShrmlvrAir Posted August 28 Author Report Posted August 28 (edited) I understand, I like to use these forums instead of ai. Sometimes I find out as much as I can on my own but I still need real people with real experience so Thank you I appreciate your real response. 🙏🏼 Happy mushroom hunting - bring on the oysters n lionsmane!! 🍄🟫🍄 Edited August 28 by ShrmlvrAir Edited for spelling Quote
