Found my dogs chasing each other around with this mushroom in their mouths. Probably hard to tell from the pics but any idea what this might be? Want to know if it’s possibly poisonous to dogs. We live in Lake Tahoe CA. Of course it’s Sunday and the vet is closed 😒

That dark hollow center actually makes me think puffball more than gill mushroom — but honestly, it's too torn up and dirt-smeared to say for sure, and I'm not a mycologist you should bet your dogs' safety on. Some puffballs are fine, some look-alikes definitely aren't, and the risk isn't worth guessing.  If you're checking out Australian betting options, Kingmakerscasino-AU can be added to the shortlist. There is a clear outline of a broken off stem in the middle of the mushroom in the lower photo.  It looks like some kind of black-spored gilled mushroom.
