ChefsWild Posted July 14, 2015 Report Posted July 14, 2015 The flesh is soft and white staining slowly dark brown. Stem was indeterminate; did not have a Ganoderma look to it.
Dave W Posted July 14, 2015 Report Posted July 14, 2015 Looks like a very young specimen, and therefore difficult to pin down to species. Maybe if it expands/matures a better idea could be provided...? Possibly a newly emerged Meripilus sumstinei (Black Staining Polypore).
ChefsWild Posted July 14, 2015 Author Report Posted July 14, 2015 Very different morphology from the black staining polypores near it.
Dave W Posted July 15, 2015 Report Posted July 15, 2015 Some of the polypores that leaf out or develop large fronds start out as relatively shapeless masses.
ChefsWild Posted July 15, 2015 Author Report Posted July 15, 2015 A few more pics, taken many hours after picking.
