lodist Posted June 8, 2025 Report Posted June 8, 2025 Hi everyone I created a webapp with a real-time map to find wild edible mushrooms and plants across Europe. (It's free and open to everyone) It uses weather, soil, and vegetation data to estimate where and when species like porcini, chanterelles, and other wild edibles are likely to grow. I’m looking for feedback and suggestions from real experts. https://fung.es Let me know what you think if you have a few minutes to check it out. Especially critiques are welcome! Quote
JOHNY Posted June 9, 2025 Report Posted June 9, 2025 There is something similar for North America called thegreatmorel. But as the name implies it is for Morels only I'd like to see something like this for Canada and the USA Quote
lodist Posted June 10, 2025 Author Report Posted June 10, 2025 Hi Johny, The next step should be to integrate North America or at least the USA. I have been busy with moving and starting a new job but I'll get there Quote
lodist Posted August 1, 2025 Author Report Posted August 1, 2025 Thank you Monika! I am still a little hesitant about the data provided by users. It can lead to a lot of bias in a system that relies on it. What I try to do is indicate seasonality based on all the geological, meteorological and geographical data I can find. With the crazy seasons we have been experiencing in recent years, it has become difficult to know when to go out and forage. I fully agree and I would like to open it more to the user. It's already a (half) open-source project and it would be nice to add a level of interaction. I'm still not sure in which direction it will develop, so I really appreciate your suggestion and will give it more than a thought. 😀😀😀 Quote
Quote
lodist Posted December 5, 2025 Author Report Posted December 5, 2025 @TonyWhite Sounds cool. would be great to have a look at it if you want to share Quote

Looks awesome — the interface is clean and the data layering is super intuitive. Curious though, how accurate have the predictions been in the last couple of weeks, especially with all the weird weather patterns? Quote
lodist Posted December 8, 2025 Author Report Posted December 8, 2025 HI @ricardooo, thank you so much! Since open sourcing it and with the work of Alberto, a dev which focused on the front-end, it's much cleaner. I haven't been watching the past weeks as I am working on the integration of the US to the map. What I can tell you is that in summer it accurately predicted an unusual strong porcini season and also a weaker october-november than expected in certain areas, so I was quiet happy with the performance and the development of the algorithm. I’ve been refining the scoring logic to better penalize droughts, sudden rain flushes adn other extreme patterns. I’m trying hard to hit the right balance and harmonize all the environmental components so the model reacts more realistically. Quote
Lovita Posted December 13, 2025 Report Posted December 13, 2025 This foraging project sounds genuinely interesting and thoughtfully planned. I like how it combines curiosity, learning, and a hands-on connection with nature instead of just theory. Exploring edible plants, understanding seasonal availability, and researching safety shows real dedication. Projects like this also help people appreciate local ecosystems and sustainable living. I’m looking forward to seeing how it develops, especially any discoveries, challenges, or lessons learned along the way. Keep documenting the process. Quote
lodist Posted December 13, 2025 Author Report Posted December 13, 2025 Hi @Lovita, you know what? That is actually a brilliant input. I think I should start a journal-page to document how the code in the back-end changes to match what we see in nature as the challenge has been matching patterns, adding missing data etc. thank you very much!! vitog Posted December 14, 2025 Report Posted December 14, 2025 Lovita sounds like another AI, like Monika, previously deleted. Quote
lodist Posted December 14, 2025 Author Report Posted December 14, 2025 @vitog mhmm you could be right. I'll try to spend less time talking to Ai bots. didn't know this was an issue on this forum Quote
vitog Posted December 15, 2025 Report Posted December 15, 2025 It wasn't a problem until recently. Quote
