dualsetters Posted July 2, 2015 Report Posted July 2, 2015 Maybe a longshot, but seems like a close match to me. Was hoping to find either B. seperans or nobilis today and possibly pick some trumpets and chanterelles. Got a handful of fresh popped chanterelles, but no trumpets in my spot. Ill check again in a week. Many similar colored boletes today, but this one bruised with out staining and had a pleasant smell and taste: This one looked similar, but stained brown: Just something new I saw:
Dave W Posted July 3, 2015 Report Posted July 3, 2015 They all look like separans, dualsetters.... well except for the little red Hygrocybes. Nice photos. Separans appearance can be pretty variable. The one I most easily confuse it with is Boletus nobilis, another hardwood white-fleshed bolete. Also an excellent edible.
dualsetters Posted July 3, 2015 Author Report Posted July 3, 2015 Thanks Dave. Maybe finally a little bolete success. Is brown staining common for these?
Dave W Posted July 3, 2015 Report Posted July 3, 2015 I think the tan bruise seen on the one's pores is a matter of lots of moisture in the mushroom. Probably just darkening as a result of moisture running together. Other brownish staining can probably be similarly attributed. I just brought home some soaked edulis that showed faint gray-blue bruising where the context meets the tube layer. I've seen this in the past.
dualsetters Posted July 3, 2015 Author Report Posted July 3, 2015 Thanks again. That's a nice big cap. I'm itching to get out again.
