mushiehead222 Posted June 10, 2015 Report Posted June 10, 2015 Found this today while mowing and it looked like chicken of the woods at first, but it has gills on the under side the same color as the top. Thanks for helping.
Dave W Posted June 10, 2015 Report Posted June 10, 2015 Possibly Oyster Mushrooms (Pleurotus species). These are sometimes found fruiting at or near ground level from partially buried wood or roots. Seeing the undersides would be helpful.
mushiehead222 Posted June 10, 2015 Author Report Posted June 10, 2015 Thanks for the quick reply. I went and got a couple more pics. I was leaning toward oyster also but the ones I found seemed very large to be oyster. My wild mushroom knowledge is pretty limited. Unfortunately the temp got to about 90 degrees today and it took a toll on them as you can see in the following pictures.
mushiehead222 Posted June 10, 2015 Author Report Posted June 10, 2015 Not the best pictures. They were much lighter in color earlier in the day
Dave W Posted June 10, 2015 Report Posted June 10, 2015 Looks like Oysters. I have seen many examples of Pluerotus that were at least as large as these. I think these may be well past prime. If you see any signs of decay, then do not consume any of them. And if you do try them, then sample a small portion well-cooked and keep some uncooked material on hand in the fridge.
mushiehead222 Posted June 11, 2015 Author Report Posted June 11, 2015 Ok,thank you for all the advice. Yes they were past prime by the time I took the second few pictures...
