Today I went on another hunt and found quite a few interesting species but this one stuck out for obvious reasons. It smelled like orange sherbet and it was my favorite color. It bruised to a darker shade of red-orange. I pressed the fresh specimen into the white page of my field guide and it left a beautiful impression.

It does look similar to the one seen in this post, but the top looks more waxed on my specimen. http://www.wildmushroomhunting.org/index.php/topic/1487-a-few-finds-426-in-va/

Pycnoporus cinnabarinus is most likely the species. There is at least one other orange Pycnoporus species that I believe is found in southern NA.
