Kevin Hoover Posted August 18, 2024 Report Posted August 18, 2024 There are so many red and yellow boletes that stain blue that it would be difficult to ID from just your pictures Quote
Fizpok Posted August 18, 2024 Author Report Posted August 18, 2024 It is kind of sad, as there are hundreds of them all around NH, and I don't know if they are good Quote
Kevin Hoover Posted August 19, 2024 Report Posted August 19, 2024 You would have to really study them. I’m doing that now, and can ID some, but have a long way to go. Bessette’s book on Boletes of Eastern North America is the default bolete bible. Pricey, but worth it. If you buy it, try to get the edition that came out this year ( there are three editions). I’ve been comparing it to the last edition and there are a lot of changes. I’d recommend also buying a chemical kit to check boletes. Normally 3 eye dropper bottles, Ammonia, KOH and iron salts. Dropping these on some boletes causes a color change where you dropped it. Various colors occur, and it’s a helpful aid in identifying boletes. I’d also recommend joining a local mushroom club. And I know what you mean, we have boletes all over the place here in PA also. Quote
Calvert Posted August 19, 2024 Report Posted August 19, 2024 Also, this "filter type" key is quite useful: https://boletes.wpamushroomclub.org/ Quote
ZUnit Posted June 17, 2025 Report Posted June 17, 2025 I think Monika is a bot or AI trying to learn. Quote
