Dave W
Dualsetters, I think the blacks may get started in your area by next weekend. But I'm guessing it will be slow to start. Until you get some sunny days with temps in the high 60s to 70s, the blacks will be hiding in the leaf litter. When they first pop they often grow with caps horizontally aligned hugging the ground. This one was photographed last year... southern PA 4/25/14. Season got started very late lasy year.
dualsetters
Ive been finding answers not to go out looking for weeks now I finally found a reason to go out; even if the probabilities are slim.....
4rum
We've had a couple of very mild days but the night time lows are still discouraging. It's raining today, if it stops I may go looking. Need to walk off some of the anxiety. I always take a camera so a good walk is never a bust.
DufferinShroomer
It isnt spring until after the frogs on the pond have frozen over for the third time.
Feral Boy
Morels are finally popping all over Missouri. I found a nice black up near Saint Louis, and this weekend am hunting near Poplar Bluff. Should be some nice meals next week!

dualsetters
poplar bluff! That says it all. Ive been thinking about a spot called poplar run. Access from where I used to enter is blocked and its a steep mountain on the otber side. Decisions decisions !!!
Dave W
Dualsetters, look for south-facing aspect, especially early in the season. Black morels like open woods that get a lot of sun.
4rum
Temps well down into the 30's are forecast for tonight. Again, discouraging. Went out Wednesday, didn't find any morels. I think I'll just go for a walk today. No expectations but ... I'll take a bread poke with me just in case
