John Smalldridge
I got out a few days ago and found some more new fruitings of oyster mushrooms. Also a few showing about 10 days of cool weather growth.

4rum
Too cold here to think much about going out. 'bout a foot of snow too. Glad I froze a few. Got Chicken of the Woods stir fry out the other day. It was pretty darn good!
jpzII
I'm very jealous of these Oyster Posts! Woke up to -30 here in Central MN so I have a feeling there are a few more months till I'm going to start seeing them.
Dave W
Cool avatar, jpzII. Looks like Polyporus umbellatus. An excellent edible, but quite rare. I've found it only twice in over 30 years, in the same spot two consecutive years twenty something years ago.
jpzII
Dave thanks!, last year was really my first hardcore year chasing mushrooms. And yep I found it then. I'm lucky in that my family has 500 acres of hunting property to check and I'm the only mushroomer there
4rum
Temps in the 40's and heavy, heavy rains got me out to the poplar patch the other day. There were remnants of what appeared to be weathered oysters on some of the poplar logs. Nothing to take home. Sort of in limbo waiting for 'muggins' (morels). John Smalldridge
4rum, the same here. I was hoping to find a few stragglers, but came up empty.
4rum
I really hoped to find a few John. I started cutting the oysters up in smaller pieces, flouring and frying till brown and got to liking them really, really good. I have a few Chanterelles and Chicken of the Woods in the freezer. Hoping for a good year for morels. Hope your season is CRAZY good.
