4rum Posted November 9, 2014 Report Posted November 9, 2014 Found this little mushroom yesterday 11-08-14. The cap color is copper-ish. Very cool, very smooth and very pretty. Cap was dry and pleasant to the touch. I had not seen this mushroom before. Any input on ID would be appreciated. Trying the sites file attachment utility.
Dave W Posted November 9, 2014 Report Posted November 9, 2014 A species of Chroogomphus. These types typically associate with pine. Maybe C. vinicolor or C. ochraceus. Nice photos.
4rum Posted November 9, 2014 Author Report Posted November 9, 2014 Found it in a black pine, oak, hickory mix. Thanks Dave, I'll read up on the ID you gave me. 'rum
Cedric Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 Agree with Dave, Chroogomphus. I've eaten them in Europe. Not bad. But don't know the species in NA.
