thelawsofexploration Posted October 26, 2014 Report Posted October 26, 2014 Think I have correctly identified this one as a common earthball. Can anyone please assist with a confirmation? Much appreciated!
Dave W Posted October 26, 2014 Report Posted October 26, 2014 I don't know what is meant by "common earthball." I think this represents a species of Scleroderma.
thelawsofexploration Posted October 26, 2014 Author Report Posted October 26, 2014 Thanks, Dave. I used a variety of resources for identifying the mushrooms, and many of them listed this as a common earthball with Scleroderma as an alternative name, so I think we have this one identified!
Dave W Posted October 27, 2014 Report Posted October 27, 2014 Scleroderma is the preferred name. Scientific names are not subject to regional bias or the whims of an author of a field guide.
Feral Boy Posted October 29, 2014 Report Posted October 29, 2014 With that thick, smooth rind, one possibility is Scleroderma polyrhizum.
