thelawsofexploration Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 Hi! New to this forum and wild mushrooms. As we are so new but very interested, yesterday we went out and picked up all of the types (@15 different ones) that we found and have been identifying them. Any confirmations as to the identifications would be greatly appreciated. All mushrooms were found in the Netherlands in a woodland area on the ground during and after a rain storm. The first set that I found I think I have identified as an orange milk cap. Does this seem correct? Also, the third specimen (also attached) seems to be a larger version of an orange milk cap. Does this seem correct or is it a completely different mushroom type? Finally, sorry I did not make any spore prints. I did not know about this but will do so in the future! Thank you!
ladyflyfsh Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 Hi! Welcome to the forum. For future posts, it is very, very helpful to us if you can take photos of the mushrooms in situ, meaning where they grow. It is helpful also to see the habitat where they are growing. One it is removed from its habitat, it is less easy to do and ID, but you have shown us the top of the cap, underside and stipe which is very necessary. European names are going to be somewhat different than American names as they are all changing now with the ability to run dna tests. Your samples are either too old or just are not exhibiting any latex from the gills. I has the appearance of a Lactarius but I can't say for sure which one. It is not Lactarius deliciosus. Have a look at this page and see how it compares to what you have there. http://www.first-nature.com/fungi/lactarius-aurantiacus.php
thelawsofexploration Posted October 25, 2014 Author Report Posted October 25, 2014 Hi, Ladyflyfsh, and thank you for the welcome! The link you sent shows mushrooms that are quite a bit larger than my guy. He was just a tiny thing. Any other ideas? Next time I'll make sure to take photographs of the mushroom in its natural habitat. Any way to determine mushroom age? These photographs were taken within perhaps 2-3 hours of picking the mushrooms. Much thanks!
vitog Posted October 26, 2014 Report Posted October 26, 2014 Two of the photos of specimen # 3 show small amounts of white latex; so that one is definitely not one of the orange milk caps.
