RockyMtn0917
I found this at about 9000 ft elevation in Empire, Colorado underneath a short pine tree. I plucked it out without being careful to preserve a potential volva, but it appears to have a residual ring on the stipe and gills on the underside of the cap. It was more orange than red so I think it might be Amanita muscaria var. guessowii. Any thoughts? Thank you!
Dave W
Seeing the basal structure would certainly help. I don't know if Amanita persicina is found in Colorado. But, this species looks like a potential match for the mushroom seen in the photos. http://www.amanitaceae.org/?Amanita+persicina
