pumplinpen Posted October 19, 2014 Report Posted October 19, 2014 These were found in dense clusters under pine. The caps were somewhat slimy/sticky. I know boletes are difficult to id to species, but is this one safe to try as an edible? Does not stain blue, does not taste bitter at all.
Dave W Posted October 19, 2014 Report Posted October 19, 2014 Looks like a species of Suillus. I think maybe S. granulatus, which is edible. Some people say that the slimy/sticky cap cuticle on Suillus mushrooms --like these-- should be peeled away and discarded before cooking.
Cedric Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 Agree with Dave, definitely looks like a Suillus. Can't opine on which of them.
