Dave W
It's a species of Russula. What species? Knowing you have a red-capped Russula does not provide sufficient information to nail the species. The gills on this one look to be on the yellowish side. So, I think the spores are likely not white, maybe beige or yellow. if you have all of the following additional information, then maybe you can narrow it down to one species... 1. % of radius the cuticle peels; 2. taste (it's okay to nibble/taste/spit a Russula mushroom); 3. Spore dimensions; 4. Length of warts on the spores (you need Melzer's reagent and a good microscope for this); 5. microscopic type of the pileipellis (cal covering). Even with all of this info you may still only have a list of 2-4 potential species IDs.
