Swatson0 Posted October 17, 2014 Report Posted October 17, 2014 I found these beauties in a grassy area under some pines. They smell great but no strong scent of anise. I think they are horse mushrooms (Agaricus arvensis), but all forums say these have gills that turn from pink to brown and mine are remaining an off white color. Let me know if you have any thoughts,
Dave W Posted October 17, 2014 Report Posted October 17, 2014 According to what I've read, Horse Mushrooms (Agaricus arvensis) represent two or more distinct species. The ones I find generally have a pleasant almondy odor... Some other species of Agaricus --A. augustus, A. abruptibulbus, A. subrufescens for example-- may have a stronger almond/anise odor. Gill color of arvensis types passes from a grayish off-white almost directly to brown. If there is a pinkish stage, then it is slight and short-lived. I find most of my Horse Mushrooms on lawns near trees. But I have also found them in woodland settings.
Cedric Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 Are you just travelling in Navarra or moved there? If you have moved, I recommend you sign up to foromicologico.es. Lots of great experts there, several from Navarra. They will happily take you around and show you mushrooms, as long as you don't tell anyone where they are located... Indeed, they are having a meet in Soria next weekend. Definitely Agaricus. In Spain, they are all edible except the Agaricus Xantoderma, which has an unpleasant odor, and turns a bright yellow upon bruising.
