Yellow gilled mushroom

I found this yellow gilled mushroom in our field in Ontario, next to an Aspen Grove. I don't believe it's a gilled bolete as it doesn't stain blue - just brown. The cap is sunk in, the stipe is smooth. It's almost gold in colour. Possibly a golden chanterelle? Thank you in advance for any insight!

Maybe Lactarius. If the gills are sliced is there any liquid that oozes out? Maybe only a tiny amount? You sometimes need to press your finger on the cut flesh of Lactarius to notice the latex (on your finger).

Also cnosider Paxillus vernalis (although the deeply vase-shaped cap does not seem to fit with Paxillus).
