Avalon1
I spotted this wavy cream color mushroom growing near my house and strangely this is the only mushroom growing in the area, this is in southwest Missouri near the MO-AR border. It's in the woods at the base of a mountain. It's growing from the ground and appears to have a thick stem, theirs no odor. I took a couple photos of both sides. What could it be? Dave W
It's a species of Lactaius. If it's not dried out and you slice through the gills with a knife you should see some liquid ooze out, probably white liquid. There are a few different species that look like this mushroom... L. zonarius https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lactarius_zonarius; L. yazooensis https://www.mycoportal.org/portal/taxa/index.php?taxon=258229 ; L. psammicola https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lactarius_psammicola . DShroomGuy
Deer commonly eat certain mushrooms. I've seen stomachs cut open from local deer that were full of mushrooms. If I had to guess probably honey mushrooms. If that mushroom is toxic or something they don't like they definitely won't mess with it so no worries there. They instinctively know what not to eat. There isn't nobody out in the woods pulling up toxic mushrooms so they won't eat them. Wouldn't worry about that one bit.
