TheWind81
Southeast Indiana. It's heavy. Largest stemmed mushroom we have found. What is it? Thanks!
Dave W
This impressive mushroom represents a species of Amanita that --up until a few years ago-- was placed into the category section Lepidella. As per a realignment of the taxonomy for genus Amanita, this species is likely one current placed into the category section Roanokensis. These large mushrooms can be tricky to pin down to exact species. I think the one seen here may be Amanita rhopalopus. Seeing the entire rooting base of the stalk is helpful for IDing these types.
