wolfymik
I was out looking for morels yesterday and ran across a bunch of these. Sandy soil in a wooded area. Are these Verpa Conica?
Dave W
I have no alternative ID suggestion to Verpa conica. Cap attachment at the very apex of the stipe and white pithy stuff clinging to the inner walls of the stipe are good indicators of Verpa. The cap surfaces look different than what I see on V. conica here in Pennsylvania. Maybe the sandy soil is stuck to the caps and making them appear to be scaly?
