galgoroth
Found on a old oak tree inNC, its still alive, any clues I have been searching through multiple sources can't quite pinpoint it, can take more pictures, just one mushroom. It's heavy for its size and very hard, the bit that is attached to the tree smells of healthy woodland speices mycelium and is moist. Dave W
Reminds me of Phellinus ignarius, except P. ignarius generally occurs on willow trees, but also reported on other types of hardwoods https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phellinus_igniarius . I think this polypore represents a species of Phellinus.
