Anthony
I need to ID this mushroom or something similar to recreate the missing wing. It's a beautiful piece of work that I've had for at least a decade. Many thanks! Anthony https://photos.app.goo.gl/RAX5fAZYEFFLSzF27
Dave W
I don't recognize a mushroom in the photo. The wings on the bird look like wood carvings to me.
Anthony
Thanks for your response. It very well might be a wood carving; it's crossed my mind in the past. I'll send along a few more photos of just the wing part...
Anthony
Here are a few more photos; I didn't bother editing them as you can zoom into them... What strikes me is that no one has come up with any mushroom ID which is saying something on this forum. Ergo, you're probably right that it's wood... Dave W
Seeing the underside, this may be a Trichaptum polypore. For Trichaptum species the pore walls on the underside elongate and become kinda jagged, looking more like spines than pore walls. Not sure about this though, as photos taken in direct sunlight are difficult to assess. The combination of glare and shadow makes for tricky viewing. Anthony
Thanks Dave... It seems if it is a mushroom it's not something that is readily available... Here are a few more pictures...
Dave W
Actually, if this is a species of Trichaptum then it's a common occurrence in NE NA.
