1left Posted September 17, 2014 Report Posted September 17, 2014 This type of stump mushroom I haven't paid much attention to over the years, I suspect this is just the early stages of Hypholoma fasciculare, does it have any yellow gilled lookalikes?
Dave W Posted September 17, 2014 Report Posted September 17, 2014 Looks like a Gymnopilus to me. The ring on the stalk is too prominent for Hypholoma. Hypholoma has dark purplish brown spore print and Gymnopilus has rusty brown/orange spore print.
1left Posted September 17, 2014 Author Report Posted September 17, 2014 Thanks Dave W, I'll check out the Gymnopilus group.
Feral Boy Posted September 19, 2014 Report Posted September 19, 2014 The stalks on Hypholoma are usually more slender, proportionate to the caps.
