pumplinpen Posted September 16, 2014 Report Posted September 16, 2014 Checking out my dad's garden beds after a rain, the mulch was spotted with Mutinus elegans... but within the same bed there was a patch of white specimens. I thought they might be a rare white version of the same species which is mentioned on Mushroomexpert... but the spore-bearing section is distinctly separate from the stalk, which seems to fit in with some other species; but none of them seem to be a match.
Dave W Posted September 16, 2014 Report Posted September 16, 2014 To me this looks more like Phallus rubicundus... although without the red on the stalk. http://www.mushroomexpert.com/phallus_rubicundus.html I think Phallus is a better match for the genus of this one than Mutinus. As noted, the hanging skirt-like cap does not appear to fit Mutinus. Interesting specimen. The link to Mushroom Expert includes some good info about Phallus.
Dave W Posted September 20, 2014 Report Posted September 20, 2014 FB, I think there are mature. An interesting observation.
