Dave W
Wow!! Nice find. I've never found/IDed this species. But, I think you've nailed it. http://www.amanitaceae.org/?Amanita+cremeosorora Your expertly harvested specimen looks like a perfect match for A. cremeosorora. Not sure if this species is known from western PA. I'll bring the MO observation --just read and commented-- to Rod Tulloss's attention. In the meantime, if you have a means by which to dehydrate this specimen, it may end up being useful.
bobby b
Didn't save anything. I'll watch that tree next summer.
Dave W
Looks like Rod Tulloss has doubts about this being A. cremeosorora (see MO post). The Vaginatae are frustratingly difficult to ID based upon morphology alone.
