Dave from tn.
Found growing in clusters like enoki on decomposing tree in a hardwood forest in Tennessee. Highs have been in the 50s and lows in the 20s. All comments are greatly appreciated.
svs
Either it or Brick cap, or other hypholoma sp
Dave W
I think these are Hypholoma lateritium. The brick-colored caps and fairly persistent white/fibrillose partial veil seen on the one unexpanded cap (and forming a ring on several others) support this ID proposal. But, as suggested by posing the initial question "Sulphur Tufts?", similarity to H. fasciculare gives cause to doubt ultimate confidence. Dave from tn.
Thanks for the responses! Spore prints came back purple. The ID matches Hypholoma lateritium. Still not 100% sure. I have been seeing them a lot.
Dave W
Check the young gills for color. H. lateritium should be pale/whitish. H. fascisulare should have a green tinge. Also, the partial veil for H. fascicualre is said to be yellow (although I rarely find this species with the pv intact).
